The Artistry of Paints and Brushes

The Artistry of Paints and Brushes

Welcome to our Meet the Maker Series

In one of those ways you can´t quite remember how, though I can thank Instagram, I discovered the work of Sarah Williams, the artist behind Das Rotes Rabbit.

I fell in love with her aesthetic and the simple beauty of her designs.

Always in search of creative collaborations for FELIZ, stumbling upon Sarah´s work felt quite serendipitous.

Last year we started working together on artwork for FELIZ. Not only did she understand my vision, we connected instantly.

The FELIZ collaboration with Sarah is almost ready for your eyes but February seemed like the perfect time to share more about Sarah, her work and her latest project, FOLD IT,  “a little book about something big”.

Tell us about who you are. What's your story?

My name is Sarah and I live in the greater Copenhagen area in Denmark. I have a son, an old dog and a Volvo. I spend my time in my studio where I work with the things that I love the most. I create brand character, art and visuals for entrepreneurs and business owners that seek development in their storyline and identity. I grew up in Copenhagen but spent most of my twenties travelling and living abroad. The years travelling had a big impact on me and still influence my work and daily perspective.

What´s your morning ritual?

Lately, I imagine, just before opening my eyes, the fullest, brightest light that fills me up with all that I will need that day.

After, of course – Coffee!

What are some simple luxuries for you? How do you add more of them into your day?

Remembering that the water flows freely from the tap. That we have a roof above our heads. That we have each other. Gratitude is making/taking time to remember what we have and what we can give.

What are you loving these days?

I love the moments when I figure something out. When all of a sudden the pieces I couldn’t match or solve before, come together, effortlessly. It feels like peace.

Tell us about FOLD It.

Fold It! - A Little Book about Something Big.

I created Fold It! during a difficult period. At the time, I did not consciously think of it as a book. Drawing has always been a way for me to express things I cannot yet put into words. Lines became a form of support — a gesture of care or friendship that I could not fully offer myself at that moment.

Fold It! is a story about listening beyond the noise of the dark, trusting your imagination and discovering connection where isolation once seemed certain. It’s about taking a chance with your imagination. It’s about bravery and compassion — and about how we can save each other by recognizing one another.

The book works as a long metaphor. What the darkness, the bird, the radio, or the tent represent is entirely open to the reader — though I am always glad to share what they mean to me.

I have never felt comfortable with darkness; it has often carried a sense of failure or the feeling that I had misunderstood something essential. But at some point, I began to listen beyond the noise of the dark. Behind that noise, there was a signal — of ideas, hope, and connection. Hence, the idea of folding the darkness came from the radio: the realization that even something rigid and overwhelming could be shaped into form.

Fold It! creates space for reflection and conversation about the darkness we all encounter — and the possibility of transforming it rather than escaping it. It invites you to trust imagination, and to discover connection where isolation once seemed certain.

Fold It! is a reminder that darkness is not fixed — and that connection is always within reach.

What's another craft that you´re interested in exploring?

Besides the wonders of the pen, hence my continuous desire for drawing and writing, I am dreaming of making things in clay. Preferably some really, really big pieces and some very tiny. Working with my hands and the direct contact with the moldable, intrigues me.

How do you get inspired? Where does your inspiration come from?

I am generally very inspired by the natural world and the vastness of emotions that drive us/people through this very interesting life. Inspiration is like a being of its own. It’s truly a gift and works at its best when free from any directional guidance! A forever-practice :)

What´s a favorite spot in your city?

Currently it is by the harbor where we live where I can see the sunrise and the flocks of birds.

And there you have it.
